The simple calls kept landing
The picks that did the heavy lifting all tournament weren’t clever tricks. They were football:
Team to win landed 172 times out of 281 — six in every ten. Goals-in-the-half calls were the quiet heroes of the whole tournament: 50 landed out of 57. That’s nearly nine in ten. First-half corners landed 10 times out of 12. And total goals in the match came in 34 times out of 52 — about two in three.
If you can read a game — who’s stronger, when the goals tend to come — those are your markets, and this tournament they paid over and over.
And the big ones landed too
It wasn’t only steady, sensible codes ticking over. Two World Cup codes at odds above ×210 came in. Another landed at ×113. One code at those numbers — that’s the day you tell your mates about.
Here’s the realistic part, codes at those odds don’t land every week. That’s what the odds mean. But they do land — twice this tournament — and every one of them started the same way: a code, up on SureSlip before kickoff.
One thing worth knowing
Not everything paid. The fancy stuff — calls on what happens in the first five minutes of a match — landed less than one time in four. If a slip of yours died on one of those, that’s the pick that did it, not your football brain. The calls built on actual football — who wins, when the goals come, corners — are the ones that kept cashing tickets all tournament.
Into the new season
The World Cup’s lesson is a friendly one: the readable stuff worked. Match results at six in ten. Goals-in-the-half at nearly nine in ten. And a couple of monsters over ×100 for the storybooks.
The new season’s codes are already going up.
